Roger Capron (1922-2006)

Roger Capron, a multifaceted figure, stands out as the only French ceramist of his time to have both crafted a significant artistic oeuvre and founded a leading industrial enterprise. Influenced by decorator René Gabriel, he established himself as a ceramist in 1946, co-founding the Callis workshop in Vallauris with Robert Picault. His iconic motifs, including branches, stylized characters, and geometric patterns, emerged during this period. In the late 1950s, his foray into architectural ceramics began with a monumental mural commission for the Cannes maritime terminal, followed by the creation of a stoneware dance floor for the renowned Byblos hotel in Saint-Tropez three years later. Today, at over eighty years old, Capron's work enjoys fervent interest from collectors worldwide, regularly showcased in galleries across Germany, Canada, and the United States.
