Juliette Derel (1918-2007)
French ceramist Juliette Derel, born in Normandy after World War I, studied at the School of Fine Arts in Tours. In the early 1950s, she moved to Vallauris, marrying Jean Rivier. Amidst the artistic fervor of Vallauris, she produced a diverse body of work, transitioning from utilitarian pieces to sculptural creations. Settling in Gréolières, she continued her remarkable enamel work, welcoming select visitors into her ceramic-filled kitchen for discussions on art and contemporary issues. Tragically, she passed away in a car accident in 2007, leaving behind a legacy of artistic innovation.
