Jacques Pouchain (1927-2015)

Jacques Pouchain, originally trained as an architect in Paris, transitioned to painting in 1951 before settling in Dieulefit, Drôme. At the Coursange faience workshop in Poet-Laval, he honed his ceramic skills, modernizing designs with his painting talent. In 1958, he opened his own ceramic studio in Dieulefit, producing utilitarian pieces adorned with figurative motifs and later transitioning to stylized, abstract works. Influenced by Nicolas de Staël, his paintings evolved towards abstraction while his ceramics celebrated themes of femininity and fertility, reflecting a joyful and architecturally inspired oeuvre.
