Sylviane Descarpentries (1925-2016)
Sylviane Descarpentries (1925-2016) was a French ceramicist known for her unique and artistic pottery. She was active mainly in Valenciennes during the 1970s and was the wife of painter Charles Bétrémieux (1919-1997). Her work, often signed with a "D" under the base, includes the renowned "Mamas" series—anthropomorphic vases made of partially glazed white earthenware. Her creations continue to attract collectors and were recently featured in exhibitions and auctions, highlighting her lasting impact on French ceramic art.
